Every school year, the same scramble and frustration.

Why we built ToShay

We've homeschooled three of our four kids since 2020. Tina is our primary teacher, and every year she ran into the same frustrations: finding good used curriculum, selling what we no longer needed, and tracking down resources. She searched countless online groups, co-ops, and even conventions.

So we built ToShay: one place for homeschool families to connect, share, trade, and find resources. The name comes from shai, the Hebrew word for gift. We believe learning is a gift we give our children, and we hope ToShay can be a gift to homeschool families.

One summer day in 2026, after hearing Tina's frustration once again, I said, "You know what? I should build an app where homeschool families can go to one place to buy and sell used curriculum." Tina laughed, because I have no background in building apps or websites, but I was half serious. After that conversation, I looked around and found there really wasn't one central place for homeschool families. Everything was scattered. I told Tina I believed God had given me a vision for us to build this for the homeschool community. So we got to work, and ToShay was born.

Buying and selling used curriculum is only the beginning. As this community grows, we plan to add more of what homeschool families need, with the goal of becoming the hub for the homeschool community.

Who we are

We're James and Tina, parents of four. Our two youngest are still homeschooled, and I fill in where I'm needed.

We believe homeschooling is one of the best ways to steward the children God has entrusted to us (Psalm 127:3; Proverbs 22:6).

Our logo

Our logo, a road leading from a book toward a rising sun, reflects how we see homeschooling: a journey that helps children become lifelong learners.

Our hope

We hope ToShay makes it easier for homeschool families to find everything they need, and helps keep our community engaged and growing.
